TRANSFER TO WEEKLY FILES FROM DAILY FILES SM3.02 PAGE 1 OF 5
If you wish to keep both daily-updated and weekly-updated price history
files, it is not necessary to maintain each of them separately. To
transfer information from WEEKLY files to corresponding DAILY files,
press T from the Master Menu. This will take you to the Daily-to-Weekly
Transfer Screen and you will see a list of ticker symbols that have
weekly-updated files.
Although the ticker symbols may appear to be "scrambled", they are
actually sorted by security type, exchange and name. The security types
are in the following order: T-Bills, Municipal Bonds, Corporate Bonds,
Preferred Stocks, Common Stocks, Mutual Funds, Warrants, Call Options,
Put Options, Precious Metals and Indexes.
Normally, you would press U to UPDATE ALL the weekly-updated securities.
If you press T, only the weekly-updated security indicated by the sel-
ector block will be updated. First, use the up-arrow, down-arrow, PgUp,
PgDn, Home and End keys to select the individual security you want.

The daily-to-weekly update process DOES NOT create new weekly files.
To create a new weekly file from the Master Menu, type S to see the
Stock Select screen. Select the security you want and type C to see the
View Screen for Individual Securities. Move the selector bar under the
CHART CAPACITY WEEKS caption. Type C again and change the number of
weeks from zero to whatever number you want. This will automatically
create a new weekly file with dates but no volume and prices. The
TRANSFER function can then be used to initially fill in the new weekly
file.
NOTE: Both the daily-updated and weekly-updated price history files for
the same security MUST exist on the SAME diskette and in the SAME sub-
directory. If you have several data diskettes, this process must be
repeated for each one. WARNING: Do NOT switch data diskettes during
this process. Switch data diskettes ONLY when you are instructed to do
so, or when the Master Menu is active.

The TRANSFER function combines volume and prices on the daily file in 5-
day blocks ending on Fridays, into single weeks of data. It does this
by adding up all the volumes, finding the highest high or ask, finding
the lowest low or bid and selecting the latest closing price, for each
week. These values are then inserted into weekly file entries which
match the Fridays on the daily file. The handling of holidays and mis-
sing data is described later.
TRANSFER operates under some rules which are intended to insure that
only valid data will get put on your weekly chart, and that your weekly
chart won't get messed up under certain conditions. These rules are
described next.
The TRANSFER function affects only those weekly-updated securities which
have corresponding daily-updated data files. Weekly-updated securities
that do not have corresponding daily-updated data are not affected.
TRANSFER TO WEEKLY FILES FROM DAILY FILES PAGE 4 OF 5
Both the weekly-updated files and their corresponding daily-updated
files MUST be on the same disk(ette) and in the same sub-directory.
The corresponding entry in the catalog must have both daily and weekly
chart capacities filled with non-zero values.
TRANSFER is fully automatic. It will not disturb already existing data
in the weekly files. Data items in the weekly file are filled in only
if they have a zero value. TRANSFER cannot be used to make corrections;
corrections must be made manually from the Data Entry screen (you can
manually zero out data you want to TRANSFER into). The Data Entry
screen can be accessed from either the the Stock Select screen or the
View Screen for Individual Securities with the E function.
New dates will be added to the weekly file automatically as they are re-
quired. There is no limit to the number of new dates that can be added.
Remember that each new date replaces the oldest one on the file (the
same as the UPDATE function in the Data Entry screen does). This means
if you have a file with 90 weeks of price history from 5-8-87 through
1-20-89 and you add one new date to that file, you will end up with 90
weeks from 5-15-87 through 1-27-89.
TRANSFER TO WEEKLY FILES FROM DAILY FILES PAGE 5 OF 5
If a new date is more than a week later than the latest date on a weekly
file, new dates with zeroed-out volume and prices will be inserted in
between. Dates are not skipped on a chart even if they have no data.
If data is missing for some dates, the moving average calculations will
not work properly.
Only complete weeks of data will be transferred to the weekly file. Any
week in which one or more days' data are missing on the daily file, will
not be used. (Marked holidays are not considered to have data missing
and therefore are OK). Thus, if your daily file has data up through
Thursday of a week, and data for Friday is missing, that four days' data
will not be transferred to the weekly file.
